MINDY FLEXER
I take the world as it is, because I find it more compelling than anything I can invent or arrange. I hope my paintings reveal the significance of the common, often disregarded places I find, indoors and outdoors in my neighborhood, in other places in Philadelphia, and beyond. To me, all of these places speak about impermanence.
I understand that I am a transient being capturing a passing moment. Everything will pass: the light, the wet paint, the scene, me, and each viewer. This is a poignant realization. My solution is to make paintings that are simple records of the sheer pleasure of physical beauty, the lushness of paint, and the joys of seeing.
My other answer to impermanence is the great satisfaction I find in teaching. I taught art for eight years at Greene Street Friends School, and currently teach art at my studio. I love sharing my passion for art with students of any age, and am excited about inviting people into my studio to share the journey with me.
